Orchids After moving to Los Angeles in June 1985 Robert and George
settled into
Venice. After a few months of hanging out and checking the scene, they
began their first attempts at putting a band together. Drummer Mark
Breznihan was the first to join, followed by childstar Robbie Rist.
After doing a slew of demos at Robbie's Woodland Hills home, Mark left
before their first gig. The Jack White sessions followed, with Jack
playing drums. Working with Bob at the record company was a drummer
from Ohio named MP. He was recruited and the first Orchids gigs
followed soon thereafter. Robbie and MP left to work on a new project
together, and Robert and George hit the studio again. Tim Berry and
Jerry Smith joined during the final sessions, and live gigs resumed.
The Central, Madame Wong's... The next guitar player was Pete Sheppard. Rehearsals began in Woodland Hills and live gigs followed. The Last American Heroes (1989-1994)George Schneller The name change reflected the newer tunes, a return to more rootsy, Americana guitar sounds. Tim Berry moved back home to Indianapolis, and Pete disappeared for a while. Ed Domer and Jeff Davis took over on drums and guitar. In 1991, Bob began recording some new songs with Ethan James and Jerry Giddens (Walking Wounded). The sessions became an acoustic record called "Confidential Reasons." Bob also performed at SXSW in 1992 and 1993 as a solo artist. Finally, in 1994, a CD version of those recordings was released. The band played it's last few shows with Pete on guitar and Charles on drums. The last live LAH performance was actually an acoustic set in Hollywood in the summer of 1994. |
